# ChatGPT Business and Enterprise Review: Is It Right for Your Team?

ChatGPT Business is the right choice for teams of 2 to 200 that want a capable general-purpose AI assistant working across Microsoft, Google and other tools, without a long procurement. Larger organizations, or those needing SCIM, role-based access, data residency or custom retention, should go to ChatGPT Enterprise. Skip both if your people live entirely in Microsoft 365 and you only want AI inside those apps.

Clustr trains business teams on ChatGPT and other AI assistants, and has built AI agents in ChatGPT Enterprise with clients; this review reflects what we see work in those programs. Plan names and prices were checked on [OpenAI's business pricing page](https://openai.com/business/pricing/) and are accurate as of October 2026.

## What is ChatGPT for business and what does it cost?

As of October 2026, OpenAI sells two business plans: **ChatGPT Business** (the plan previously called ChatGPT Team, [renamed in August 2025](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12111915-chatgpt-business-rename-faq)) and **ChatGPT Enterprise**. Both give your company a dedicated workspace separate from personal accounts, and OpenAI states that business data is not used for training by default.

| Plan | Who it's for | Price (as of Oct 2026) | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Business, Standard seat | Everyday work, teams of 2 to 200 | $20/seat/mo annual; $25 monthly | SAML SSO, admin console, workspace agents |
| Business, Premium seat | Heavy users | $100/seat/mo annual; $125 monthly | 5x more usage than Standard, no 5-hour limit |
| Enterprise | Organizations at scale | Pricing on request | SCIM, EKM, RBAC, data residency, custom retention |

Business lets you mix Standard and Premium seats in one workspace. According to OpenAI, Business includes ChatGPT Work and Codex, connectors to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, workspace agents, deep research, shared projects, scheduled tasks, company knowledge, extensions for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets, SAML SSO, an admin console and usage analytics. Enterprise adds an expanded context window, SCIM, Enterprise Key Management, role-based access controls, domain verification, data residency in ten regions, custom data retention, 24/7 priority support with SLAs, and invoicing with volume discounts. Enterprise offers credit-based and token-based pricing. Source: [OpenAI business pricing](https://openai.com/business/pricing/).

## Where is ChatGPT for business strong?

**Familiarity.** Many employees have already used ChatGPT on their own. That lowers the barrier to the first session and lets training focus on better habits instead of the basics. It also gives IT a way to move personal, unmanaged use into a governed workspace.

**Range.** ChatGPT handles a wide spread of work in one place: drafting, editing, analyzing uploaded spreadsheets, deep research, image generation and voice. For a mixed team, one tool covers most needs.

**Works across your stack.** Connectors to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack and GitHub mean ChatGPT is not tied to one productivity suite. That suits companies with a mixed environment or teams that work across client systems.

**Shareable AI agents.** Custom GPTs and workspace agents let a team turn a repeatable task into a shared tool. This is where we see the biggest gains. With Cresa, we built AI agents in ChatGPT Enterprise for RFP drafting, landlord proposal analysis and prospect briefings ([case study](/case-studies/cresa)). Our guide to [building an AI agent your team will use](/blog/how-to-build-ai-agent-team-will-use) covers the approach.

**Simple start.** Business can be bought self-serve with flexible seat types, so a team can start in days and move to Enterprise later.

**Office and Sheets extensions.** OpenAI lists extensions for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets on the Business plan. That narrows the gap with suite-native assistants for people who want help inside a spreadsheet or deck without copying content back and forth.

**Codex for technical staff.** Codex is included in Business, so the same workspace can serve developers and analysts who want to automate scripts or data tasks. For companies that want both business users and engineers on one platform, that simplifies purchasing. Our [Codex training](/codex-training) covers that side.

## Where does ChatGPT for business fall short?

**It sits outside your daily apps.** Even with connectors and Office extensions, ChatGPT is still a separate destination for most people. Teams have to build the habit of going there, which is harder than using an assistant already in their inbox.

**Business lacks some enterprise controls.** OpenAI's comparison lists SCIM, Enterprise Key Management, role-based access controls, IP allowlisting and the Compliance API as not included in Business. Regulated or larger companies will need Enterprise, which means a sales conversation and custom pricing.

**Seat caps.** A Business subscription tops out at 200 paid seats, per OpenAI's pricing page. Growing companies should plan the move to Enterprise early.

**Usage is not unlimited for every model.** OpenAI describes everyday chats as unlimited subject to abuse guardrails, while advanced models are flexible and heavy users may need Premium seats.

**Context limits on Business.** OpenAI's comparison table lists a 54K total context window for the instant model and 256K for reasoning models on Business, with Enterprise offering an expanded context window for longer inputs and larger files. Teams that regularly work with very large document sets should test their real files before committing.

**Quality depends on the user.** ChatGPT gives confident answers whether or not it has enough context. Without training on prompting, verification and data handling, teams get uneven results and can share things they should not.

## Who should buy ChatGPT for business?

- **Buy Business if** you are a team of 2 to 200 that wants one flexible assistant across Microsoft, Google and other tools, and you can start with self-serve admin controls.
- **Buy Enterprise if** you have more than 200 users, operate in a regulated industry, or need SCIM, role-based access, data residency or custom retention.
- **Consider pairing it** with Microsoft 365 Copilot if your organization is on Microsoft 365 but some teams need a broader assistant. Our [ChatGPT Enterprise vs Microsoft Copilot guide](/chatgpt-enterprise-vs-microsoft-copilot) covers that decision.
- **Skip it if** your people work entirely in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and only want AI inside those apps.

## How to roll out ChatGPT so people use it

1. **Set the rules first.** Decide what data is allowed in ChatGPT, which connectors to enable, and who can build and share GPTs. Our [AI governance guide](/blog/ai-governance-guide) helps.
2. **Measure a baseline.** Our [AI fluency assessment](/assessment) shows where people are today, as we did with SINA for Cresa.
3. **Train on real tasks by role.** Sales, finance and operations use ChatGPT differently. Our [ChatGPT training](/chatgpt) and [AI training for sales teams](/ai-training-for-sales-teams) are built around role-specific work.
4. **Build a few shared AI agents.** One well-built GPT that saves a team hours every week does more for adoption than a dozen demos.
5. **Track usage and keep coaching.** Use the admin analytics, then reinforce with champions and follow-up sessions. Our article on [ChatGPT Enterprise adoption](/blog/chatgpt-enterprise-adoption) goes deeper.

**What to train first.** In our programs, the first session that sticks is usually not a feature tour. It is a working session where each person brings a real task, such as a client email, a meeting summary or a spreadsheet, and learns to give ChatGPT enough context, ask for a specific format, and check the result. The second session is about projects and shared GPTs, so the good prompts stop living in one person's head. Data rules belong in both sessions, not in a separate policy email nobody reads.

Our [AI-native GTM cohort](/case-studies/ai-native-gtm-cohort) is another example: six weeks of live AI training for sales professionals from RingCentral, Aiven, Elire and R Cubed.

## Common questions

### What is the difference between ChatGPT Business and ChatGPT Team?

ChatGPT Business is the current name for the plan previously called ChatGPT Team. As of October 2026, it is OpenAI's self-serve plan for teams of 2 to 200, with Standard and Premium seat types, SAML SSO, an admin console and no training on business data by default. Larger organizations use ChatGPT Enterprise.

### How much does ChatGPT Business cost?

As of October 2026, OpenAI lists the Standard seat at $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, and the Premium seat at $100 per month billed annually or $125 billed monthly. Premium offers 5x more usage than Standard with no 5-hour limit. You can mix seat types in one workspace.

### How much does ChatGPT Enterprise cost?

OpenAI does not publish ChatGPT Enterprise prices. Its pricing page lists Enterprise as custom pricing through its sales team, with credit-based and token-based pricing options and volume discounts. Expect the final cost to depend on seat count, usage and contract terms, so request a quote and compare it against your expected adoption.

### Does ChatGPT Business train on our data?

OpenAI states that ChatGPT Business and Enterprise do not train on your business data by default. Enterprise adds custom data retention policies, encryption at rest and in transit, and Enterprise Key Management. You should still set internal rules for what data employees can put into ChatGPT and which connectors are enabled.

### When should we upgrade from ChatGPT Business to Enterprise?

Upgrade when you pass 200 users, need SCIM provisioning, role-based access controls, Enterprise Key Management, data residency or custom retention, or want SLAs and priority support. Regulated industries often start with Enterprise for the compliance controls. Plan the move early if headcount is growing, so admin setup and training are not rushed.
